Overcoming Addiction: It's Not Easy, But It Is Simple
The first step in overcoming any addiction is to first admit that you have one. Once you start to question whether or not you are addicted to something, you aren't very far from the bottom. The next step may be to admit yourself into a treatment facility that specializes in your specific addiction. An interruption in your lifestyle may be imperative in order for you to recover. Distancing yourself from all that is familiar and comfortable is essential to your well-being. It helps you focus on the problem; you. Letting go of all excuses is vital to saving yourself.

If you don't want to check into a treatment center, you can find support groups. Call a helpline to find these groups in your area. Show up! The act of showing up to make a positive change in your life will help rebuild self-esteem and get you on the road to recovering. Any action taken to care for yourself will lift your spirits.

If you are uncomfortable doing these things, good. This means that you are doing something different, which is what you are looking for. Stay in the moment and have gratitude for what you have, especially the simple things. Gratitude is a powerful tool in being able to carry on from moment to moment when you are in this fragile state. Connect with people that have similar goals. From the minute you make the decision to stop something, you never have to start again, one day at a time.

Using Visualization to Overcome Addiction
If you're struggling with an addiction, there are many different methods to overcome addiction- rehab, finding your Higher Power, detoxification diets, etc. But one of the biggest helps with overcoming addiction is to use visualization. If you're wondering how to overcome addiction using visualization, it's actually relatively simple.
The use of visualization has been helpful not just in overcoming addiction, but also for quitting smoking, weight loss and meditation.

To begin using visualization to help you overcome an addiction, find a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. Playing some light, calming music at a lower volume can help you to clear your mind- for purposes of meditation and visualization, it's usually best if the music doesn't have lyrics- but this is a personal preference, it's completely up to you. Before you begin using visualization, clear your mind by taking several slow, deep, calming breaths and closing your eyes.

Once you've calmed yourself and begun relaxing, go ahead and start visualizing yourself overcoming your addiction. Imagine a bright while ball of light, going through your body and mind to clear the addictive feelings from your body... imagine you are being cleansed of addictive feelings, thoughts and behaviors. Doing this for several minutes a day will help you gradually overcome addiction- whether it be to habits, substances, etc.

Visualization to overcome addiction usually works best when combined with meditation, a spiritual program and possibly even rehab or a detox program- although it can work on its own, if you are truly intent on getting rid of your addiction.
